CT IV and Oral Exam
For this exam, please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Please avoid clothing with zippers and snaps, as metal objects can affect the image. You may also be asked to remove hairpins, jewelry, eyeglasses, hearing aids and any removable dental work that could interfere with the images.
You will be given an oral contrast beverage prior to your exam. It is available in two 450ml bottles. The first bottle is taken two hours prior to the start of your exam time and the second bottle is taken one hour prior to your exam. Please pick up your oral contrast beverage at the IMAGING Center if it is unavailable at your physician’s office. To minimize your waiting time, please pick up the oral contrast beverage prior to your exam.
You will be receiving an injection of IV contrast (commonly known as X-ray dye) to help visualize the imaged organs. If you are over the age of 50 or are diabetic, lab work will be necessary before your test to ensure the health of your kidneys.
Also, please limit your intake to clear liquids during the 4 hours prior to your exam.
